Crucnhyroll has just handed us their physical release list for June, and while there aren’t any well-known heavy hitters this time, there’s some stuff you might find interesting. The headliner is Buddy Daddies, a comedy series whose premise might remind you of Spy x Family, except it’s a bit more different than that.
It’s been a long and cold winter, but things will be shaping up very soon…the sun will come out, the flowers will sprout up, and Crunchyroll will debut four new anime series to their streaming service.
I feel like I’ve been stabbed right in the childhood because one of the legends who shaped my younger days is now gone. Akira Toriyama, the man behind anime and manga like Dragon Ball, Dragon Ball Z, Dragon Ball Super, Blue Dragon, and Dr. Slump, has passed away at the age of 68. He died inside his studio, doing what he loved. Dragon Ball is one of the most influential anime today, probably the reason why most shonen anime have very flashy fight scenes and even influenced Western animation in some ways. It has become so legendary that even people who have never read a Dragon Ball manga or watched a Dragon Ball anime know who Son Goku is. When Toriyama is still Alive, He is not full time writing anymore. He just give ideas to his apprentice Toyotaro. Hopefully Toyotaro can continue the legacy.
Over the weekend, the 2024 Anime Awards were held in Tokyo. Like last year, it was sprinkled with appearances from a variety of celebrity guests from multiple industries; some from movies, some from music, some from sports. Singer Megan Thee Stallion, actress Iman Vellani and the NFL’s DeMarcus Lawrence were among those who showed up on stage. Voice actress Sally Amaki and entertainer Jon Kabira served as hosts.
Cruchyroll has put out its schedule of Blu-Ray releases for this May. Why should you still buy Blu-Rays? Because, for one thing, all the digital titles people owned under the Funimation label are now null and void. Those who bought the titles on disc don’t have problems like this.
You might think you can find the Crunchyroll app on everything, but there are still a few holes yet to be filled. As of this week there’s one hole less: Crunchyroll has successfully launched their app on Samsung’s Smart TV store.
Now that Spy x Family Code: White has opened in Japan, how long until we get it here? Not too long, according to Crunchyroll, who revealed today their global release plans for the feature film based on the hit Spy x Family TV series.
Many share the fantasy of eternal youth or revisiting youth once it’s gone. Currently, technology hasn’t fulfilled this wish, and the magical McGuffin from movies remains fictional. Kadokawa Animation has unveiled the trailer for ‘Grandpa and Grandma Turn Young Again,’ a manga series by Kagiri Araido that began serialization in 2019.
Solo Leveling started running on Crunchyroll January 6. It’s the first Japanese anime based on a Korean manhwa (their version of manga). Up to this point we knew nothing of any plans for an English dub, but Crunchy revealed all today.
Tomorrow marks the day something different comes to Crunchyroll, though you may not realize it at first glance. The new anime Solo Leveling premieres in just a few hours — the first Japanese animation based on a Korean manga (which they call “Manhwa” over there).
We don’t suppose there was any doubt that the Jujutsu Kaisen anime would be continuing, but it was confirmed by studio MAPPA almost immediately after the last episode of Season 2 was released in Japan. No specific release date was announced for it, but….Season 2 just ended, so it won’t be tomorrow.
